Lauren Chance, 2010 Teen Artist-in-Residence

Teen Artist-in-Residence, Lauren Chance, will be editing digital photography during the month of July at the Central Resource Library. Drop in and visit with Lauren while she works with her photos.

Thursdays, July 1, July 8, July 22, July 29, from 1-3 p.m.

Artist's Statement:

Photography is my outlet. It allows me to turn what I'm feeling into something beautiful. My pictures are a reflection of who I am.

Bio Information:

Lauren is 16 years old and a junior at Shawnee Mission Northwest.

Photography has been an avid hobby of hers for nearly three years. Her camera of choice is a Cannon Rebel Xsi; she edits her photos in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Lauren’s favorite author is Sarah Dessen; her favorite of her books are This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever.

One of Lauren’s major goals is is to attend Medical School and become a doctor; she has also pianist, having played the piano for nine years.

Awards/Honors:

Photo Compilation “This I Believe” was published in issue 7 of elementia:
“The project I submitted to elementia was part of an essay I had to write about how it is important to take a step back from life every now and then and appreciate what you have instead of always focusing on how to acheive more. Taking photos of what's around me is my way of doing that, and the pictures were meant to instill the feeling of serenity and relaxation.”

Digital Photography Workshop

Lauren will also present hands-on photography workshops for middle school students at the Central Resource Library. Work with her to enhance your digital photography and photo editing skills. Bring your own camera if possible. For ages 10-14. Space is limited. To register, call 913-495-2490 beginning June 19.

An event to honor the creative work of photographer Lauren Chance, writer Ayah Abdul Rauf, and the young people they inspired; reception will be a casual afternoon in honor and appreciation of creativity.
